“Tracker” on TF1: an American police series that is creating a buzz in France

Currently airing on TF1, the first season of "Tracker" is enjoying a resounding ratings success. The American police series, which sees a survival specialist earn his living by helping to find missing people, had already won over critics across the Atlantic.

“I don’t know how to thank you,” says the boyfriend of a missing woman Colter (Justin Hartley) has just found. “The reward money will be fine. […] I’ll take cash, but I also accept checks.” The hero of Tracker, currently airing on TF1 since August 27, is like many other detective series protagonists: he knows how to evacuate someone with a broken leg, negotiate with a hostage-taker, and detect inconsistencies in a witness statement. The difference, jokes the Los Angeles Times , is that Colter “does it all for the money—not that he’s indifferent to people’s fate, but the fact is that it’s pretty rare to see a detective series where the detective gets paid.”

In the United States, the first season of the series created by Ben H. Winters was released on CBS in February 2024 (just after the Super Bowl ). And the critic of the Californian daily Robert Lloyd was delighted. Sure, the stories are sometimes a little predictable or far-fetched – in each episode, Colter must find a different missing person, in different parts of the United States.
